About Palo Cedro
Discover Palo Cedro
Palo Cedro, whose name means "Cedar Wood" in Spanish, is one of Shasta County's most desirable communities. Located approximately 8 miles east of Redding, this semi-rural enclave offers upscale country living with stunning views of Mount Lassen, excellent schools, and a strong sense of community. With a median household income well above the state average, a 95% homeownership rate, and top-rated Foothill High School, Palo Cedro attracts families and professionals who want space, quality, and a slower pace of life without sacrificing access to urban amenities.
The area was originally home to the Wintu people. European American settlement began in the early 19th century, with the town officially named Palo Cedro in 1893 after earlier names of Albertson and Roberts. In the late 1800s, the Anderson and Bella Vista Railroad passed through, supporting miners, lumber companies, and residents. Country music legend Merle Haggard lived in Palo Cedro for many years until his passing in 2016.
