About Fall River Mills
Discover Fall River Mills
Fall River Mills is a peaceful agricultural community in the far northeastern corner of Shasta County, situated in the stunning Fall River Valley between Mount Shasta and Mount Lassen. Known for its spring-fed rivers that create one of the finest "blue ribbon" wild trout fisheries in the West, Fall River Mills offers wide-open spaces, world-class golf, and a genuine ranching heritage. The area's unique volcanic landscape, underground springs, and sweeping mountain views make it one of Northern California's most distinctive communities.
The town was settled in 1855 by William H. Winters and named after Fall River, which is fed by some of the largest freshwater springs in California. The Fall River Valley is the ancestral territory of the Pit River Tribe's Ajumawi band, who have inhabited the area for thousands of years. Agriculture, particularly cattle ranching, wild rice farming, and hay production, has been the economic backbone of the community since its founding.
